What is the Role of a Notary Public?
The role of the Notary Public is to identify you as the individual whom has signed a document. The notary does this by means of positive identification or satisfactory evidence (active government-issued picture ID or credible witnesses). It is often assumed that the Notary Public is to explain and make clear the documentation before a borrower or client, this is not the case. The notary is a neutral party that is not benefiting or associated with a transaction. The Notary Public is found of reputable standing by the State of California to administer their seal as a witness. The notary is assuring that you are truly the person whom is signing or administering an oath. They also affirm that you are of sound mind to do so without having been coerced.
